Mejbaur Rahman Sumon is a Bangladeshi filmmaker, screenwriter, painter, and musician whose multidisciplinary practice brings together visual art, cinema, music, and storytelling. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, his artistic background has shaped a cinematic language marked by strong visual composition, atmosphere, cultural memory, and an interest in the surreal and the folkloric.

Sumon began his filmmaking career in television, directing fiction and teleplays before moving extensively into commercial filmmaking. His early works include Tarpor Paruler Din, Tarporo Angurlota Nondo Ke Bhalobashe, Jochhna Nodi Othoba Rashid-er Kichhu Kolpo Drishsho, Pherar Poth Nei, Thake Na Kono Kaale, Prem O Porabastobota, and Simtar Shada Jama. Tarporo Angurlota Nondo Ke Bhalobashe became one of his widely discussed early works, while Dokhiner Janalata Khola — Alo Ashe Alo Phire Jae received the Prothom Alo Critics' Choice Award.

His filmmaking continued across television, advertising and digital cinema, eventually leading to his feature-film debut Hawa (2022). The film, directed and co-written by Sumon, became a major contemporary Bangladeshi film and was selected as Bangladesh's submission for the 95th Academy Awards.

His second feature film, Roid (2026), further develops his interest in folklore, mythology, memory and surrealism. The film was directed and co-written by Sumon and produced through Facecard Production among its production companies.

Alongside filmmaking, Sumon is a founding member and vocalist of the acclaimed Bangladeshi alternative band Meghdol, with whom he has been involved as a lyricist and vocalist for more than two decades. His musical practice has been an important part of the creative sensibility that informs his filmmaking.

Through cinema, painting, music, television and advertising, Sumon's work reflects a continuing fascination with myth, folklore, human relationships, visual atmosphere and the surreal dimensions hidden within everyday life.
